THE POWER OF LIFE AND DEATH
Proverbs 18L21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
James 3:6 “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
James 3;8 “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Our tongue can determine how far we fail or succeed in marriage. Mabel had a quick tongue and her husband had a short temper, a combination that seldom makes for a vibrant, lovely relationship. He beats her often and sometime leaving her with injuries.
They had been into constant frictions. Just lately, passion and temperament flew in opposite directions. Hardly does a day slip by without a potful of squabbles, bickers’ and misunderstanding on their matrimonial house.
Their short fuse goes off very often and very quickly. It suddenly dawned on her that their relationship was heading for the rocks and would soon disintegrate. It was a matter of time.
Something must be done quickly. Worse still, she never traced the problem to their tongue. Concerned and thoroughly disturbed, she sought help and counsel to halt the drift and save the situation. Help came but not before she was “diagnosed” as having a “sick” tongue.
As unconditional, unbridled use of their tongue was at the root of the problem. Situation came when her tongue was tamed and brought under control.
Yes, situation came after constantly consulting a counselor who instructed her to pick a stone washed and put in her mouth.
He instructed that under no circumstance must the stone fall out of her mouth. For the first one week, she discovered that the beating she receives daily from the husband stopped, the constant friction stopped, the atmosphere at home became calm and normal as compared to good marriages.
She ran to the counselor to testify; on enquire what come upon her husband, the sudden change! The counselor laughed….,and told her that her tongue would have capsized the boat of her marriage and should be tamed.
If you have turbulence in your marriage, constant friction, argument s, lack of peace, tame your tongue and enjoy a lovely relationship with your spouse.
What control our tongue determines what we say. When we allow circumstances, anger prejudice, selfishness, the flesh and pride to control us, we talk wrongly. We should allow the Lord to be the master and Director of our lips.
And God hates the unbridled mouth and shall cut off:
Proverbs 13:3 “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.”
Proverbs 15:4 ‘A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”
Proverbs 13: 2 “man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.”
Our tongue can lift men from the valley of despondency to the mountain top of joy, peace and success.
If you want to inherit God’s blessings, bask in His superabundance, keep your tongue.
None by his power, wisdom, and ingenuity can effectively and perfectly control his tongue.
