THE BREVITY OF LIFE..
1Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
James 4: 13 Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
A long time ago, there was a king who had an expert clown. The major occupation of the clown in those days was to entertain the king with funny displays and amusing jokes, therefore they were often regarded of foolish creatures.
Whenever the king was downcast or depressed, all he had to do was send for clown and soon, he (king) would be laughing happily and heartily.
One day, the king called his clown and said, “Hey you fool, come here, I need to talk to you” When the clown came closer, the king told him; “listen carefully, I’m likely to die soon. But before I die, I want to know who is more foolish than you in this kingdom.
I want you to search every nook and cranny of this land and bring me that person. I will give him my golden staff as a prize.” The clown did as he was commanded and went in search of the most foolish than himself. So, he returned to the palace to report to the king.
As soon as the monarch sighted him, he blurted out’ where is the man?!” the trembling clown was speechless for some time, then .. suddenly.. an idea occurred to him. “Excuse me, your highness,” he said, “ did you say you would die soon?” “And so?” the king retired. “If I may ask, “Continued the clown, “ Do you know what happens after death and have you prepared to grant a reply; “Well, I don’t know and I don’t care!”
The clown grinned triumph, snatched the staff from the king and returned it to him with the piecing remark; “Sorry, I shouldn’t have bothered searching here and there for what is so close to me.”
Does that not surprise you? The king thought he was far more intelligent than the clown, yet he was actually more foolish. Sadly there are many today who think and act like the king. They set goals for themselves and make lofty plans for the future without any thought of death and what happens after it.
And they think are wise and smart. Well, in the eyes of the world, that may be true, but in the eyes of God, they are the most foolish set of people!. Anyone whose way of thinking and living excludes preparation for life after death; anyone who is so preoccupied with earthly gains and worldly pursuits that he does not take time to considered the certainty of death or eternity is the most miserable of all men. 1Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
Luke 12: 16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Lord , I pray that no human or any power will recreate or reconfigue my life negatively in Jesus name. Grant me the grace focus and invest in heavenly things in Jesus name.
